Carp… or almost
Carp… or almost
In this work, Antho Illustration plays on the contrast between tradition and humor. The kappas, these mischievous spirits of Japanese folklore, are transformed here into improvised tattoo artists. One of them, visibly diligent, draws a majestic Koi carp, an emblematic symbol of perseverance and strength in Japanese culture. But at his side, his more clumsy sidekick delivers a distorted and almost caricatured version of the fish, breaking with the solemnity of traditional art. The imposing back of the sumo thus becomes a canvas where seriousness rubs shoulders with laughter, wonderfully illustrating Antho's ability to mix registers and inject humor into strong cultural references.
