In Smoking Bot , Alexandre Galatioto captures a moment that is both banal and deeply intriguing. A robot, headphones screwed onto its head, lights a cigarette with an old-school lighter. This gesture, so human, seems almost absurd in the hands of a machine, but that is precisely where the whole story lies: an artificial being that appropriates our rituals, as if it were trying to understand or feel.
The minimalist decor and warm tones immerse the scene in a retro-futuristic, almost intimate atmosphere. The robot's jacket, marked with a Jump and Japanese characters, evokes a universe that mixes cyberpunk and pop culture, a world where machines blend into human daily life. But why does he smoke? Is it an attempt to imitate, to integrate, or a simple bug in his code?
Galatioto, with its precise and narrative style, does not give a clear answer. It is up to the viewer to imagine the past or the future of this robot, and to project his own reflection on what it means to be human in a world where machines increasingly imitate our simplest gestures.
