Yves-José Malgorn: the artist who reveals the robotic soul of our heroes

Yves-José Malgorn : l'artiste qui révèle l'âme robotique de nos héros - MoGA

We came across Yves-José Malgorn somewhat by chance, while leafing through the pages of the now cult Geek Art, an anthology of Thomas Olivri. When we came across the pages dedicated to Yves-José, we were quickly drawn into his world. A sort of surgical Pop Art that makes us enter ( literally !) into the skin of his characters and their mechanical or mechanized interior.

Geek Art, an anthology

But who is Yves-José Malgorn?

Yves-José Malgorn is an artist passionate about robotics and Geek culture. In his artistic universe, he immerses us in the mechanical interior of our favorite characters. His fascination with robotics was initiated by Terminator, triggering the beginning of a long passion for this field. By combining his love for robotics with his interest in illustrating Japanese anime and manga, Yves-José found the inspiration for his artistic creation. A unique and recognizable style that he will never leave.

Yves-José Malgorn, a robot

Is Yves-José himself a robot?

Although he put drawing aside for a while, his professional life led him to discover vector drawing, a technique that allows him to create images using geometric shapes. This approach opened up new perspectives, allowing him to draw original creations, with a superposition of details and layers, more or less human. Thus was born his series of characters with robotic interiors, a perfect harmony between the fascination for robotics and the potential of vector drawing.

Arale, human but not too much

His latest masterpiece (which you can find exclusively at MoGA - yes, sometimes you have to do a little product placement 🥷) is an X-ray scanned version of Arale Norimaki, revealing a robotic skeleton entirely imagined by Yves-José. We can see in this work all the work of the artist: at first glance, we see a daring combination of colors, in a very Pop Art style, highlighting the character in its entirety. But when we get closer and observe the details of the work, a set of finely detailed mechanical circuits intertwine with Arale's human features. This process gives a unique side to the work, in which we continue to discover, day after day, new details.

An impression that lives up to the work

This creation is printed on the highest quality art paper, in our usual formats (from 20x20 to 70x70). To present his work in an optimal way, Yves-José has laminated it on a Dibond support, ensuring perfect alignment with the American box in which it is placed, almost naturally.

Arale and Murakami

And if you're lucky enough to have a Murakami, it will look great next to it 😘
